Our darling baby girl, Phoebe Anne, passed away after a long & good life at 13 ½ years of age. She is deeply missed by Tom, Vicki, Buddy Lee & Beezer McGee White.
Buddy & Beezer (her two little brothers) lived almost their entire lives with her and recognized she was the four-legged boss of the house, but loved her anyway. Phoebe’s passion, as a field bred English Springer, was hunting. Even though she was diagnosed at a young age with hip dysplasia she joyously hunted almost her entire life. Out in the fields and marshes, Phoebe had no use whatsoever for any paths that existed. She would dive into and thrash through whatever was the nastiest, most impenetrable thicket she could find. She still was “hunting” the weeds and bushes with us at the park on her very last day. Phoebe’s unshakeable optimism was an inspiration. Though our hunting for pheasants was usually at local areas where there were no (or few) pheasants, she still was absolutely convinced the next weed clump would yield a bird. Duck or goose hunting was the same – eager little eyes boring holes into the sky, looking for the duck or goose she just knew was going to appear the very next second. Despite very few birds encountered over the years (and mostly missed shots when they were) she never lost her supreme confidence. She was never disappointed and neither was I.
When not hunting she was the biggest and best cuddle-bug you could ask for, she would curl up next to us on the couch – or on Mom’s lap, which was her rightful place – and keep us company. She ruled and blessed our lives with her boundless energy, joy, optimism and affection.
We’re a household of 4 now but we’ll always know that we’re still 5. We love you sweet Evening Star Phoebe Anne and we’ll miss you forever.
